Campus Recreation manages 2 indoor fitness facilities for strength and cardio training, group fitness, fitness assessments, personal training, and various other recreational activities. The Bobby E. Leach Student Recreation Center is a , square foot fitness facility located right in the heart of campus. Want to get a good cardiovascular workout? And, we have over 6, lbs of dumbbells! Dumbbell sets range from 3 pounds all the way up to pounds in three areas of the gym to accommodate all patrons.

The light-filled building has ample space for advanced medical care. But unlike its predecessor, Thagard Student Health Center, the new Health and Wellness Center includes classrooms, research laboratories, even physical therapy and athletic training — all under one roof. The Health and Wellness Center was a decade in the making and ambitious in its collaborative goals, said Lesley Sacher, director of University Health Services , which is a partner in the facility. As a result, the center not only fulfills its mission of providing first-rate care for students but its classroom spaces are booked and its labs play host to health-related research — including a concussion clinic that will allow Florida State athletic training students to study the sports-related injury in a College of Medicine research project. A new Priority Clinic will help students get more effective treatment; additional clinic space will provide an additional 50 appointments per day during the first semester of operation, which began Aug. The Health and Wellness Center also features a nursing triage clinic for same-day appointments and a healing garden for personal reflection. And an urgent-care dispensing system soon will be available to students who do not have transportation to off-campus pharmacies.

Florida State has a total student population of 40, students — meaning there are 40, student memberships to the Leach Center. As a front desk attendant, I come in contact with just about every single person who enters the facility. Freshmen — this one goes out to you. They enter through the exit turnstile, take their towels home with them, and spend, on average, 18 minutes trying to figure out their locker code. These people come into the gym at the same time. Every day.
