The Christian doctrine of the Trinity Latin : Trinitas , lit. The three Persons are distinct, yet are one "substance, essence or nature" homoousios. Trinitarianism contrasts with positions such as Binitarianism one deity in two persons, or two deities and Monarchianism no plurality of persons within God , of which Modalistic Monarchianism one deity revealed in three modes and Unitarianism one deity in one person are subsets. While the developed doctrine of the Trinity is not explicit in the books that constitute the New Testament , the New Testament possesses a "triadic" understanding of God [6] and contains a number of Trinitarian formulas. The word trinity is derived from Latin trinitas , meaning "the number three, a triad, tri". This abstract noun is formed from the adjective trinus three each, threefold, triple , [9] as the word unitas is the abstract noun formed from unus one.

The first article of faith is familiar to all members of the Church. It is the pivotal position of our religion. It is significant that in setting forth the primary elements of our doctrine, the Prophet Joseph put this number one:. The preeminence given that declaration is in accord with another statement the Prophet made. I would like to discuss this most important of all theological subjects, that which is the subject of the first article of faith. I believe without equivocation or reservation in God, the Eternal Father.

Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:. Psalm ,28 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. Psalm ,3 The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen. Isaiah Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. Acts ,39,41 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts , But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.

Trinitarian formula

Jesus said we are to be baptized in the name singular of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Looking at how the apostles obeyed His command confirms this interpretation, for they always and only baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. I am not persuaded this is the correct interpretation. Such an interpretation is foreign to the rest of Scripture. If Scripture uses the name Jesus to refer to the Son and only the Son, we should not use it to refer to the Father and Holy Spirit as if it equally applies.

Obviously, baptism is very important, but does it matter how we are baptized? Is there a correct baptism, or will anything work? If you believe the Bible, then YES, there is a correct baptism. In Acts 19, there were certain people who already believed on Jesus Christ, but had not yet received the Holy Ghost into their hearts. Then, as promised, they received the Holy Ghost. Matt Did they make a mistake?

The Christian doctrine of the Trinity holds that God is one God, but three coeternal .. "The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit" are not names for different parts of God, but one name for God because three persons exist in God as one entity.
