With the Archie Comics gang poised to return to television in January with "Riverdale," a new CW drama that promises dark secrets, forbidden relationships and fractured friendships, we thought it would be interesting to revisit the last time the characters appeared in live-action: the TV movie "Archie: To Riverdale and Back Again. Released on video as "Archie: Return to Riverdale," the peculiar, largely forgotten NBC movie brought the world of Archie Comics to television at a time when comic book adaptations weren't common on the small screen. It isn't a trailblazer, but it's certainly worthy of reflection. Plus, it's weird as hell. The strangest thing is that, for an Archie TV movie, it doesn't feature the characters as we know them.

It premiered on April 27, Alice turns to Archie and Veronica for help, but when Betty discovers they are working with her mom, she is not happy. Meanwhile, Fred and Mary attend the Homecoming dance, leaving Fred to possibly reconsider the divorce. The episode opens up with the narration of Jughead Jones voice, who writes from Riverdale High's gym bleachers saying "People like to say the death of Jason Blossom changed everything at Riverdale High ," yet "certain things, certain traditions never change. Fifteen years has passed since the Archie gang graduated from Riverdale High School. Archie became a successful lawyer, Jughead is now a divorced psychiatrist with a son named Jordan, Reggie owns a health club, Betty is a grade school teacher and a budding romance novelist and Veronica is Also Moose and Midge have gotten married and become chiropractors. They also have a son, Max, who hits it off with Jordan.
