T-Mobile's low-band LTE network has extended the carrier's reach across the northern and central US, according to our exclusive crowdsourced coverage map. The MHz or "band 71" network, which has only been live since August , now covers rural cities and towns T-Mobile never covered before, according to the carrier. T-Mobile won its nationwide Band 71 licenses in a auction, but it still hasn't been able to roll all of it out. The spectrum used to be TV channels , and while TV stations have been moving their signals to lower channels, some still have until mid to make the switch. While T-Mobile would not give us its official MHz map, we were able to consult with the carrier to remove false positives from our map.

This coverage viewer provides a predicted high-level approximation of wireless coverage. There are gaps in coverage that are not shown by this high-level approximation. Actual coverage may differ from map graphics and may be affected by terrain, weather, network changes, foliage, buildings, construction, signal strength, high-usage periods, customer equipment, and other factors. Consumer Cellular does not guarantee coverage. Our coverage maps are not intended to show actual customer performance on the network, nor are they intended to show future network needs or build requirements inside or outside of existing Consumer Cellular coverage areas. Coverage maps also may include areas served by unaffiliated carriers.
T-Mobile is quickly expanding, so their network is likely to get even bigger and faster in the near future. It's been a little more than a year since T-Mobile USA bought enough MHz spectrum licenses to cover the entire country, and the carrier has now activated the spectrum band in more than cities and towns in 32 states. In of those cities and towns, it's the first time T-Mobile has offered LTE coverage, the company said in an announcement yesterday. Only a few Samsung, LG, Motorola, and OnePlus phones are capable of using the new spectrum today, but MHz support should eventually become a common feature in new phones. It will also take multiple years for T-Mobile to fully deploy the spectrum across the US. T-Mobile bought this low-band spectrum because it's ideal for covering long distances and penetrating obstacles such as building walls, which have long been problems for T-Mobile's network. An advertising industry self-regulatory body recently told T-Mobile to stop claiming it has the "best unlimited network. T-Mobile's coverage in big cities was already pretty strong, so it's no surprise that early MHz deployments are filling gaps outside the big cities.

It has one of the fastest 4G networks which performs particularly well in urban areas, and offers feature-rich unlimited plans. The reports from different independent testing companies like RootMetrics, Ookla and OpenSignal sometimes contradict each other. Each company uses different testing methodologies. RootMetrics performs road tests and covers a wider physical area than other tests, but OpenSignal is more relevant to users, as its results come from an amalgamation of crowdsourced data. T-Mobile offers two unlimited plans and a 10 GB shareable plan available without a credit check. The unlimited plans, on the other hand, are great.
Neither seems to have much coverage in or around Munising. Are there others on the forum who have had more success with other carriers? I use Verizon and get good coverage in the UP. I do not get coverage everywhere but it isn't to bad. I travel pretty much the width of the UP from the Bridge to Watersmeet to Houghton every June and with Verizon there are only a couple of areas like one mile stretches here and there where I don't have coverage. I even get coverage in the middle of most of the lakes up there now! With Sprint you might as well use your phone for a fishing sinker as it will only work in Marquette.
